The module back-stories take place in various locations throughout the Czech Republic.
Goal: Level A2 (upper A2).
Number of expressions in the modules or lessons: 1755 different expressions (per Ministry of Education guidelines)
Our goal is for our clients to be able not only to manage the language, but also to become familiar with the socio-cultural environment of the Czech Republic – through texts, during workshops and individual lessons.
Module 01 - New Identity
Destination: Prague
Activities: Change your identity – become someone completely new and see how other people live. Discover a new world and get to know new people. Get to know interesting Czech personalities.
What you’ll learn: Learn to introduce yourself, say where you’re from, what languages you speak, and basic communicative phrases.
Grammar points: Discover that by using different verb forms you can control how formal your communication with others is.
Where you’ll go: Find out all about the Czech capital city.
Module 02 – Beer Lover
Destination: Pilsen
Activities: Taste world-renowned Czech beer, train your senses to be able to distinguish individual tastes and smells. You’ll find out that in the Czech Republic, beer is sometimes cheaper than water!
What you’ll learn: Learn to describe the characteristics of people and things, how to communicate in shops and ask how much something costs. You’ll discover what to say when making a toast and how to ask to switch from formal to informal methods of address.
Grammar points: Learn how tiny changes in a word can change the whole sense of a sentence. Learn how to use the accusative case, which is very common in Czech. You’ll be able to conjugate a number of verbs, and say exactly what you want.
Where you’ll go: Get to know interesting places in the Pilsen region.
Module 03 – Tour Guide
Destination: Prague and Central Bohemia
Activities: You’ll take your friends through the city that you’re from and introduce them to your country. Try being a tour guide yourself and figure out how to manage restless tourists.
What you’ll learn: You’ll be able to take part in a job interview and provide requested information about yourself.
Grammar points: Learn to express the future, compare properties of people and things, and learn some slang expressions.
Where you’ll go: Get to know some of the most interesting places in the Czech Republic.
Module 04 - Dancer
Destination: Olomouc
Activities: Dance a traditional Czech polka and enjoy the atmosphere of a Moravian ball. The polka’s not hard at all to learn, and you’ll never feel lost at a dance again.
What you’ll learn: Learn to start simple conversations, ask for a dance, and apologize for not understanding.
Grammar points: You’ll be able to express the nominative and accusative plural, express amounts/numbers and order, and learn to use the imperative case.
Where you’ll go: Visit the Olomouc region.
Module 05 - Chef
Destination: Špindlerův Mlýn
Activities: Learn to cook traditional Czech food and other foods that are Czech favorites. Afterwards you can cook Czech specialties and invite your Czech friends to dinner.
What you’ll learn: Learn to order food and drinks in a restaurant and ask for the bill; in addition, you’ll learn conversational basics with doctors and how to describe your problem and say what exactly hurts.
Grammar points: Learn how to use the locative case so you’ll be able to say, for example, where something is, and familiarize yourself with modal verbs.
Where you’ll go: Get to know interesting places in the Hradec Kralove region and the highest Czech mountain range - Krkonoše
Module 06 - Traditions and Folklore
Destination: Třeboň
Activities: Learn some interesting things about Czech holidays, customs and traditions. Practice coloring Easter eggs and weaving an Easter willow whip.
What you’ll learn: Learn to write your friend a letter or postcard, invite someone to dinner and profess your love.
Grammar points: Learn to use the genitive singular and the past tense of the verb být (to be). We’ll also learn how to say the date.
Where you’ll go: Visit southern Bohemia, which is known for, among other things, its fishponds.
Module 07 - Actor
Destination: Říp Mountain
Activities: Learn about Czech romantic fairy tales and legends. Become an actor and director, express emotions through movement, and breathe new life even into an ordinary story thanks to your individuality.
What you’ll learn: You’ll learn to express your thoughts to the public, how to get the public’s attention. Learn some “little words” that will help buy you some thinking time.
Grammar points: You’ll be able to use the past tense, and learn the instrumental singular.
Where you’ll go: Get to know the Ústecký region and its famous mountain Říp.
Module 08 - Inventor
Destination: Pardubice
Activities: Design and create your own invention – you’ll have to combine creativity and fantasy, and then present your idea to the others.
What you’ll learn: Work some more on expressing possibility and probability, and advise your friends what you would do in their shoes.
Grammar points: You’ll learn to form the conditional and simple conditional clauses. Learn other ways to form words. And finally you’ll learn the last remaining case – the dative.
Where you’ll go: Visit the Pardubice region.
Module 09 - Moderator/Talk Show Host
Destination: Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad)
Activities: Experience for yourself what it’s like to be a moderator, and interview movie stars on the red carpet at a film festival! Maybe you’ll be a bit nervous at first, but everyone feels that way before his or her first live broadcast.
What you’ll learn: You’ll learn to describe a situation concisely and clearly, get to know classic Czech films and refine your polite conversation skills.
Grammar points: You’ll learn the locative plural and the difference between the verbs jít-přijít-odejít and jet-přijet-odjet.
Where you’ll go: Visit the Carlsbad region.
Module 10 - Interpreter
Destination: Rožnov pod Radhoštěm
Activities: In this module you’ll find out that in the Czech Republic, it’s not only foreigners who have trouble making themselves understood – even Czechs themselves sometimes have the same problem. Try translating from your mother tongue into Czech and surely you’ll be able to handle all those tricky translation tough spots!
What you’ll learn: Learn to formulate sentences in other ways, so that others will understand you better; you’ll also learn how to tell if others have understood you. Learn some other words and expressions you can use to give yourself time to form your thoughts. Even Czechs do it! In addition, you’ll learn some informal slang expressions that Czechs use all the time so that you’ll sound even more like a real Czech!
Grammar points: You’ll repeat all the grammar we’ve learned so far, and add the masculine genitive plural and complex conditional phrases.
Where you’ll go: Visit Wallachia.
Module 11 – The Loser
Destination: Kutná Hora
Activities: During this module you’ll be dogged by bad luck and problems - but you already know Czech well enough to handle anything! Miss your train? Get mugged? Need to go to the doctor? Need to give someone first aid? No problem – after you finish this module, you’ll be able to handle anything!
What you’ll learn: You’ll be able to converse with police officers, offices, write a complaint letter or change money. Ask for directions and help others out.
Grammar points: Genitive plural, feminine and neuter genders
Where you’ll go: Get to know interesting places in central Bohemia.
Module 12 - Sommeliér
Destination: Mikulov
Activities: Use your Czech in a real-life situation - during an excursion to a wine cellar in southern Moravia. Taste quality wines, sing some traditional songs and converse with friends from the course and other people.
What you’ll learn: You’ll learn to react quickly to questions and be able to use everything that you’ve learned so far.
Grammar points: You’ll learn the instrumental plural and repeat all the grammar we’ve covered so far so that you can use your Czech to the best of your ability!
Where you’ll go: Get to know southern Moravia and experience an evening in a wine cellar in real life!
